October bank holidays: Are banks closed on Durga Puja, Dussehra? Check the state-wide full list here

Check out the state-wise bank holidays for Navratri, Durga Puja, Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, and other festivals across India. Digital banking services, including UPI, will be functional on the banking holidays

There will be multiple Bank Holidays from September 29 to early October of 2025 due to festivals like Navratri, Durga Puja, and Gandhi Jayanti. All banks in India, including the the State bank of India, observe these holidays as per the Reserve Bank schedule.

There are national holidays and holidays with state-to-state variations due to regional differences in celebrations. Every second and fourth Saturday and all Sundays are also holidays.

Here is a list of bank holidays this year from September 29 to October 31:

September 29

West Bengal will be having an extended six day bank holiday in several parts till October 2, Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra.

September 30

Banks closed for Navaratri in Multiple cities.

October 1

Banks closed for Dussehra, Ayudha Pooja, and Durga Puja.

Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Odisha, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Tripura, and West Bengal.

October 2

Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra, Durga Puja, and Janmotsav of Sri Sri Sankardeva.

Holiday is observed across most states.

October 3, 4

Banks in Sikkim will be closed due to Durga Puja (Dasain) celebrations.

October 5

Sunday

October 6

Banks in Tripura and West Bengal will remain closed for Lakshmi Puja.

October 7

Banks in Karnataka, Odisha, Chandigarh, and Himachal Pradesh will shut for Maharshi Valmiki Jayanti and Kumar Purnima.

October 10

Kati Bihu in Assam

October 20

Diwali, Naraka Chaturdashi, and Kali Puja holidays in around 20 states

October 21, 22

Holidays in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and several other states for Laxmi Puja, Govardhan Pooja, and Balipadyami.

October 23

For Bhaidooj and Chitragupt Jayanti, banks in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh will remain shut.

October 27, 28

Banks will remain closed on October 27 and 28 for the evening and morning rituals of Chhath Puja in  Bihar and Jharkhand.

October 31

Digital Banking will function as normal during the holidays, including UPI and mobile apps. However, physical services like cheque clearance, demand drafts, or locker visits must be planned in advance for these holidays.
