Infra of international stands being established across J-K to nurture sports talent LG’s advisor

     Jammu, Sept 26 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir Lt Governor’s advisor Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar on Monday said the administration has given utmost priority to the sports sector, and infrastructure of international standards is being established across the Union Territory to nurture the sports talent.
     The Advisor made the remarks during flagging off the Jammu and Kashmir contingent for the 36th National Games to be held at Gujarat from September 29 to October 12.
     “We are sure that our talented sports persons will perform well and bring laurels for J&K and make us proud,” Bhatnagar said.
     Highlighting about the development of sports infrastructure, he said the Lt Governor Manoj Sinha is taking personal interests in development of sports here and “we are making all efforts to raise sports infrastructure and facilities to international standards.”
     He asked the players to take due advantage of these facilities for excelling in their respective sporting fields.
     Sharing his vision, Bhatnagar said, "We aim to make J&K home to athletes of the highest calibre, across a variety of sporting disciplines, and a preferred destination for organising national and international sporting events in near future."
     While assuring support to the sporting community, the advisor said under ‘My Youth My Pride’ programme, around 35 lakh youths are aimed to be engaged in sports activities.
     Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul, said in the last National Games, the J&K contingent won four silver and eight bronze medals and this year the players are better prepared and “we are hoping for more medals this time”.
     The Secretary said as many as 14 contingents are taking part this year from Jammu and Kashmir and as per the new guidelines, cash awards will also be given to the medallists under new Sports Policy. PTI TAS RCJ
