Kohima, May 4 (PTI) Emphasising the need to improve access to welfare benefits, Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav has suggested organising block and village-level camps for issuance of disability certificates in coordination with the Health and Family Welfare department.
The move aims to ensure that persons with disabilities can more easily access government schemes and entitlements.
The suggestion came during a review meeting with the Department of Social Welfare held at Lok Bhavan on Monday, a statement issued by PRO Lok Bhavan said.
During the meeting, Director Social Welfare, Tosheli Zhimomi, presented a comprehensive overview of key programmes being implemented across the state.

These included flagship schemes under the Ministry of Women and Child Development such as Saksham Anganwadi & Poshan 2.0, Mission Vatsalya, and Mission Shakti, focusing on nutrition, child protection, and women's empowerment.
The meeting also reviewed initiatives under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment and the Ministry of Rural Development, particularly for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups.
Progress in child protection mechanisms, including Child Welfare Committees, Juvenile Justice Boards, and Child Helpline services, was discussed in detail.
While appreciating the department's efforts in reaching beneficiaries, the governor stressed the need to strengthen implementation, enhance public awareness, and improve inter-departmental coordination for more effective service delivery.
In a separate meeting on monsoon preparedness, the governor reviewed the state's readiness for the rainy season.
Home Commissioner Abhijit Sinha presented an overview indicating that although India may experience below-normal rainfall due to possible El Niño conditions, Nagaland is expected to receive normal to above-normal rainfall with uneven and intense distribution.
Key concerns highlighted included flash floods, landslides, and erratic rainfall patterns. Departments presented district-wise preparedness plans, including the setting up of control rooms, deployment of machinery, and identification of vulnerable road stretches.
The Public Works Department (PWD) said that National Highways and major roads are under close monitoring, with alternative routes identified to maintain connectivity during emergencies. Preventive measures such as drainage clearance, slope stabilisation, and pre-positioning of resources are being carried out.
The Kohima district administration outlined its action plan, including formation of task forces, traffic management measures, medical preparedness, and ensuring adequate supply of essential commodities during the monsoon.
Stressing coordinated action, the governor directed all departments and agencies to remain vigilant, ensure timely emergency response, and disseminate information effectively to minimise disruptions during the monsoon season.
Senior officials from the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), PWD, NHIDCL, district administration, and SEWAK attended the meetings.
