Lawyers ceasework extended till May 2
Kolkata, Apr 29 (PTI) The Bar Council of West Bengal
on Monday extended the ceasework called by it to protest
alleged attack on lawyers at a Howrah court by municipal
workers and policemen till May 2, its vice-chairman Siddhartha
Mukhopadhyay said.
The Chief Justice of the Calcutta High Court TBN
Radhakrishnan, while taking suo motu cognisance of the
violence at Howrah court premises, Monday requested the
lawyers to lift the ceasework.
"Since no concrete steps have been taken to identify
and punish the perpetrators of the April 24 attack, the Bar
Council has decided to extend the ceasework till May two,"
Mukhopadhyay said.
The elected members of the council are scheduled to
meet the Chief Justice on Tuesday to discuss the issue, he
said.
Lawyers at the Howrah district court and employees of
the Howrah Municipal Corporation, which is located opposite to
the court, clashed on April 24 over parking of a vehicle.
