HP wakes up to sunny morning after heavy snowfall rain

    Shimla, Feb 8 (PTI) The sun shone brightly in most parts of Himachal Pradesh after heavy snowfall and rains lashed the state on Friday morning, the Met department said.
    Normal life was disrupted as several arterial roads were blocked and power supply was disrupted in many parts of the hill-state, including Shimla and tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti.
    The higher and mid hills of the state received heavy snowfall while the lower hills and plains were lashed by heavy rain from Thursday evening to this morning, after which the minimum temperature plunged in most parts, the meteorological department said.
    Shimla, Chamba, Kufri, Narkanda, Dalhousie, Manali, Mandi, Solan, Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur received heavy snowfall, Shimla Met centre Director Manmohan Singh said.
    While Shimla received 36 cm snowfall, Manali witnessed 35 cm snowfall from 5.30 pm on Thursday to 8.30 am on Friday, Singh said.
    Khadrala and Jubbal in Shimla district got 18 inches and 4 inches snowfall respectively, he said, adding tribal district Kalpa's Kinnaur recorded 29 cm snowfall during this period.
    Besides, Dharamshala was lashed by 98.2 mm rain, followed by Kangara (67 mm). Bhaba Nagar in Kinnaur district and Una received 56.2 mm rain each, he added.
    Experiencing heavy snowfall for the last two days, some parts of Lahaul and Spiti also witnessed avalanches.
    On Thursday, a liquor shop was damaged due to an avalanche in Tindi area of the district, Udaipur Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM)Subash Gautam said, as he asked the locals to stay indoors.
    All education institutions in Lahaul-Spiti, Chamba and Kullu districts have been asked to remain shut on Friday, officials of the local administration said.
    The minimum temperature in Shimla and Manali was minus 2.4 degrees Celsius and minus 5 degrees Celsius respectively, Singh said, adding the minimum temperature in Kalpa was minus 7 degrees Celsius.    
    The weathermen has forecast more snowfall in the higher and mid hills and rain in lower hills and plains on Friday. PTI DJI AD
