Film posters of Australia, Bengal inaugurated at KIFF
    Kolkata, Nov 11 (PTI) Bengal and faraway Australia
came together at the 24th Kolkata International Film
Festival (KIFF) on Sunday to exhibit poster of their iconic
films made during the past 100 years.
    The first Bengali movie was made in 1919 and
Australian cinema was 113-years-old, but the KIFF is
celebrating 100 years of film making of both the lands.
    Australia is the focus country of this edition of the
KIFF.
    Australia's High Commissioner to India Harinder Sidhu
inaugurated a poster exhibition of major Australian films
saying it is aimed at showcasing the incredible diversity,
depth and originality of the films of her country.
    It was also equally befitting to "bring the historical
perspectives of our film-making to Kolkata, given that the
Kolkata International Film Festival (KIFF) this year is also
celebrating 100 years of Bengali cinema," she said.
    On display are the posters of 30 iconic Australian
films - from the world's first feature length movie ever made
in 1906 - 'The Story of the Kelly Gang' - to contemporary
movies such 'Breath' (2017) and 'Mary Magdalene' (2018).
    Altogether 26 films from Australia are being screened
in the KIFF.
    At another event, an exhibition 'Chalchitro',
celebrating 100 years of Bengali cinema, was inaugurated at
the festival venue on Sunday.
    The posters of Pather Panchali (1955), Dadathakur
(1962), Ganadebata (1978), Chokh (1982), Shotru (1984) and
other films were displayed in the exhibition.
    The posters were unveiled at a ceremony attended by
Jaya Bachchan, Soumitra Chatterjee, Biwajit Chatterjee,
Prosenjit Chatterjee, painter Subhaprasanna and others.
    Posters of directors like Sir Birendranath Sircar,
Dhirendranath Ganguly, Nitin Bose, Satyajit Ray, Tapan Sinha
