As Kerala enters another Nipah season, health authorities have urged the people to remain vigilant and take precautions to keep the virus at bay.

Antibodies against Nipah virus have been detected in fruit bats from districts including Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Idukki and Malappuram.

5 ways to keep the virus away

1. Always wash fruits thoroughly before eating.

2. Avoid consuming toddy that has been stored in open containers.

3. Use gloves while picking up fallen fruits from gardens, farms or any similar places.

4. Ensure food and water are stored in a manner that prevents contact with bats.

5. Do not consume half-eaten fruits picked from the grounds.

Kerala has reported Nipah outbreaks in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2023 and 2024 | PTI
