Manjummel Boys: How a Malayalam movie created history in Tamil Nadu?

'Manjummel Boys' has become the biggest Malayalam hit in Tamil Nadu’s history, minting Rs 15 crore in the state.

Much of 'Manjummel Boys' is set in Kodaikanal and the 'Devil's Kitchen', popularly known as Gunaa Caves where the Kamal Haasan-starrer 'Gunaa' was shot. Manjummel Boys is based on a real-life incident in which a man travelling with his friends got trapped in the caves.

'Gunaa' song 'Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan', composed by Ilaiyaraaja, is weaved into the storyline of 'Manjummel Boys', further wooing Tamil viewers to theatres.

'Manjummel Boys' won the hearts of Kamal Haasan and 'Gunaa' director Santhana Bharathi, who met the cast and crew of the Malayalam film for an interaction.

Tamil actors George Maryan and Ramachandran Durairaj also appear in key roles. Many Tamil fans have urged 'Gunaa' makers to re-release the 1991 film amid 'Manjummel Boys' success.
