'Deadpool & Wolverine' teaser: Understanding Marvel's TVA

(Warning: Loki S1, S2 spoilers ahead!)

'Deadpool & Wolverine' teaser breakdown:

To comprehend Agent Paradox and the armour-donned soldiers battling Deadpool in the just dropped teaser, one needs to watch Marvel's Loki series. If you haven't, here's a guide! | YouTube screengrab

Understanding Time Variance Authority:

Well, Marvel defines Time Variance Authority (TVA) as "an agency concerned with monitoring realities throughout the multiverse and attempting to keep temporal interference to a minimum." | Twitter

Not a simple concept:

TVA and its numerous staffers were created with one objective -- protect the Sacred Timeline. | Twitter

What TVA does:

The TVA has the power to discontinue timelines, virtually erasing them from existence and history. This is to ensure the sanctity of the only timeline that mattered or -- Sacred Timeline. | Twitter

What is Sacred Timeline?

The Sacred Timeline exists "to provide order" so that multiversal wars between timelines are dodged. Thus, they don't spare most time travellers and prune them to non-existence. | Screengrab

Who are the armed officers in vest?

Minutemen, are a unit of law enforcers. They are armed with time-manipulating devices that can reset altered timelines.

TVA Hunters and agents:

Then there are the Hunters, who are tasked with “pruning” timelines that branch off of the course of the Sacred Timeline. They are also in charge of making rule-breaking variants stand trial before the TVA’s judges. | Twitter

Loki series: A deepdive

However, all these authoritarian ways change, 'The Loki S2' shows. TVA comes to the conclusion that all lives matter and billions of people can't be simply pruned because they existed outside the Sacred Timeline. | Twitter

TVA's agenda changes:

So, the TVA stops its genocidal tendencies and enforces all its resources to protect the multiverse and keep tabs on Kang variants. | Twitter

God of Mischief's variant(s):

The Loki we see in the series is a variant due to escaping the Battle of New York at the end of The Avengers. He then meets another variant of himself -- Sylvie (yes, a woman). Sylvie hates TVA as Hiddleston's Loki decides to help her. The duo eventually find themselves at the end of time, encountering Jonathan Majors's "He Who Remains." | Twitter

Kang!

HWR reveals to the Lokis that the Sacred Timeline and the TVA were his creations. After his multiple variants met, they launched battles at each other -- causing multiversal wars. Learning his lesson, He Who Remains created the Sacred Timeline to avoid "wars that crossed time and space." | Screengrab

SPOILER | 'Loki S1' finale:

Then the TVA was formed to prune any rogue branches. Sylvie ends up killing him, causing the Sacred Timeline to branch off into multiple versions. | Screengrab

TVA and Deadpool explained:

TVA seems to be interested in recruiting Deadpool to become one of its hunters. Given his unique skillset, Deadpool can effectively take down Kang variants. | Twitter

Logical explanation for the cross-over:

Deadpool 2 revolved heavily around time travel. Remember how he popped Green Lantern-ready Ryan Gosling before visiting baby Hitler (and many other things)? Given the TVA's interest in the area, it was certain that the 'Merc With A Mouth' appeared on their radar. | Twitter

Teaser breakdown:

However, DP being DP, slaughters TVA workers.

But why???

'Deadpool & Wolverine' hits theatres on July 26!
