HBD, Mr Bean! Five other iconic roles of Rowan Atkinson

English actor, comedian and writer Rowan Atkinson, renowned for portraying Mr Bean, is celebrating his 62nd birthday today. (Compiled by R. Rakendu)

In the 2003 spy action comedy film ‘Johnny English’, Atkinson played the clumsy but kindhearted M17 agent who dreams of being its top agent. The movie was followed by its two sequels: ‘Johnny English Reborn’ (2011) and ‘Johnny English Strikes Again’ (2018).

‘Blackadder’ is an English series inspired by the character of Edmund Blackadder, the antagonist of the play, ‘King Lear’ by William Shakespeare. The series was originally aired from 1983 to 1989 on BBC1.

The 2001 Hollywood comedy movie ‘Rat Race’ was inspired by the 1963 film ‘It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World’. Atkinson played the role of an Italian tourist, Enrico Pollini. The movie revolves around six competitors who race 563 miles to Silver City to win $2 million, which is kept in a train station locker.

In the dark fantasy comedy horror movie ‘The Witches’ (1990), Atkinson played Mr Stringer, the hotel manager. The character's costume and mannerisms are similar to Mr. Bean.

In the 2005 film, ‘Keeping Mum’, Atkinson appears as a priest, Reverend Walter Goodfellow. He also played similar roles in movies like ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ (1994) and ‘Wonka’ (2023).
