BJP’s ambitious Yamuna clean-up drive begins in Delhi

Seven machines have been deployed to remove solid waste, water hyacinth and weed from the river

This work is likely to go on for the next few months

According to officials, the entire 57-km stretch of the Yamuna in Delhi will be cleaned in time-bound manner

The target is to modernise and reboot around a dozen STPs and complete the construction of six such plants by the end of 2026

Concrete steps will be taken to check the flow of industrial effluents into the river, says Additional Chief Secretary Navin Chaudhary

Public awareness will be created to prevent people from immersing idols, throwing other items into the river.

The polluting river was a major poll plank for both the the BJP and the AAP
