The 190-foot bridge was constructed by the Madras Engineer Group, also known as the Madras Sappers in record time.

Not just in Wayanad but in places around the world where transportation was difficult, the Bailey Bridge has come to the rescue.

Named after engineer and civil servant Sir Donald Coleman Bailey, the bridge is prefabricated, modular and portable.

The Bailey Bridge was developed in 1940-1941 for military use during World War II.

The bridge is made of interchangeable high-tensile steel latticed panels linked with alloy steel pins set into ready-made holes to form girders.

Bailey bridges were set up in Sabarimala in 2011 and Enathu in 2017
