The 79-year-old Italian Automobile manufacturer, which defined what a supercar is, introduced its first Electric car to its portfolio, Ferrari Luce (pronounced Luchey, which means ‘light’), at a price tag of $640,000. [Compiled by Antonio Anthey]
It is powered by four electric motors, one for each wheel, which is powered by a Maranello-made 122kWh battery and produces a whopping 1,035 horsepower and reaches from 0-60 in 2.5 seconds even after weighing 2.2 tonnes. The claimed range is 530 km, and the top speed is 310 km/h
The car is designed in collaboration with Former Apple Design Chief and Love From agency founder Sir Jony Ive. The design elements seem to draw inspiration from Apple products.
This is the first car from the Italian manufacturer that can seat 5 people, as there have only been maximum 4 seaters like the Purosangue and GTC4 Lusso.
The interior features a three-spoke steering wheel similar to the one seen in older Ferrari cars like the 250 GTO, and features physical buttons all around.
In the centre, a small knob functions as a gear shifter with the window switches placed in the same panel. Ferrari has given a 10-inch infotainment unit (called Control Panel) that is movable and contains toggles for seat function and dual zone climate.
Ferrari has included an electric motor featuring a Halbach Array configuration, which is used in Formula 1 cars.
Electric cars are set to make up 20% of the Italian automaker's portfolio by 2030, which means that they will continue to produce ICE vehicles for much longer.
