What was the most challenging part of playing Jhalkari Bai in Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi?

In Bundelkhand, Jhalkari Bai is worshipped as a goddess. She was one of the most important leaders of the rebellion of 1857. The challenging part was to get the emotions right, so that people could feel how she is the unsung hero of the country. Besides, the action scenes were very new for me.

What kind of preparation did you do for the role?

I had to do a lot of horse riding and sword fighting in the film. That was the major part of it. Also, during the film’s journey, I had to believe that I was playing such an important role from history, so I had to be in character through that process.

You had immense success on television as Archana in Pavitra Rishta. Has acting in films been easier because of that?

Both television and films have their own difficulties. I had no prior experience with television when I became a part of it. It was never easy. This, too, has not been very easy. The good part is that I am getting a response as a newcomer in films, and not as someone who has already worked in television. That is a great thing.

How would you define your journey so far?

It has been awesome. I loved every second of the film [Manikarnika]. We owe something to the country and this is one way to do it. It has been a beautiful journey.

There has been a lot of speculation about your love life since your breakup with Sushant Singh Rajput. Does it bother you?

As you said, these are speculations. It does not bother me.
