While there are several talking points about Lady Shri Ram College for Women, the most important one is the critical thinking that it instils in its students. “We encourage plurality of ideas and welcome different perspectives on a subject,” said Dr Suman Sharma, principal. “So, even if students are studying a particular discipline, we try to expose them to varied thoughts from other disciplines.”
LSR gives great importance to the guru-shishya parampara, and, as a result, there is a lot of handholding for first year students. Pre-admission counselling allows students to walk in and check out the facilities in the college. There is a strong fellowship and scholarship programme as well.
LSR students have a strong sense of social responsibility. “We have a course in conflict resolution and peace building at the Aung San Suu Kyi Centre for Peace,” said Sharma. “It is dedicated to fostering a culture of peace in the South Asian region.” Suu Kyi is an alumna of the college.
