THE WOMAN IN THE WINDOW

A thriller that is impossible to put down

With millennial digital “writers” like Rupi Kaur seemingly taking over the literary sphere, one can thank psychological thriller authors like A.J. Finn for novels like The Woman in the Window.

The world doesn't see many authors exploring the thriller space through the eyes of female protagonists anymore, apart from the bestselling Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, both of which were later screened as award-winning thriller films. This debut book by Finn seems to be headed on a similar path.

Authored by a publishing executive and editor Daniel Mallory, under the pseudonym A.J. Finn, the New York Times No. 1 best-seller is a must-read. The plot revolves around an addled children's psychologist, Dr Anna Fox. An agoraphobic after a grave personal tragedy, her days involve spying on the lives of her neighbours and collecting the “memories” in the form of pictures.

On one such day, she chances upon a murder in the house across the street. With the strong and unwisely mix of merlot and serious medication affecting her daily schedule, Anna finds herself on a journey of self-doubt, misleading mind-games, and apparent reality as she's made to question what she'd witnessed—by the police, her husband, and her friends.

With just the right amount of details pouring out of each page, Finn has made the book nearly impossible to put down. You'll find yourself questioning the very concept of reality and the actual capability of the human brain. The Woman in the Window is definitely a book that needs to be added to your personal collection.
