Last month, Triumph Motorcycles completed four years of operations in India and 2017 saw a wide range of bikes launched from the iconic English motorcycle brand. Triumph has over 14 dealerships across the nation and a strong 4,500 customer base. Triumph also announced a non-equity global partnership with Bajaj Auto for design, development and distribution of mid-range motorcycles. The first co-developed bike is expected to be rolled out in 2021. We take a look at the Triumph bikes launched in 2017.
Triumph Bonneville Bobber
The Bonneville Bobber was launched with an intention to offer customers a custom looking bike straight from the factory. From the design to the engine, the Bobber reflects on custom cruiser that you always desired. Based on the Bonneville T120, the bike may not be eager to change directions but give it a twist and the sound makes you forgive the tardiness. The 1200 cc liquid cooled parallel twin engine puts out 77 PS of power and a healthy 106 Nm of torque making it a hoot to ride on the highways. Keep it at around 90 km/h, with the tacho ticking at 2100 rpm, and you can ride the Bobber all day long. Prices start at Rs 9.32 lakhs ex-showroom.
Triumph Street Triple S
Triumph updated the 2017 Street Triple with a new 765 cc engine that replaced the 675 cc unit, resulting in an increase of both power and torque. The Street Triple S, which is lighter than the previous generation, is equipped with a Showa suspension, all-new gullwing swingarm and also gets features like ride-by-wire throttle, two riding modes (Road and Rain), ABS and switchable traction control. The gearbox has been re-tuned for shorter gear ratios for the first and second gears for better acceleration. Go past 6,000 rpm and this is where the fun begins. The power delivery is quick no matter which gear you are in or what speed. A beautiful exhaust note will let others on the road to stop and admire. Prices start at Rs 8.71 lakhs ex-showroom.
Triumph Tiger Explorer XCx
The Explorer XCx is the range topping variant of Triumph’s Tiger adventure motorcycle line-up. And the bike comes with features that befit a flagship – electrically adjustable windscreen, Semi Active Suspension system, five riding modes with dedicated Off-Road mode, cruise control, heated grips, Optimised Cornering ABS, traction control and more. Being an off-road bike, the chassis has been designed to offer a dynamic experience along with the adjustable WP suspension and amazing brakes. Elements like big block tyres and upswept exhaust are purposely built for adventure enthusiasts. Prices start at Rs 18.75 lakhs ex-showroom.
Triumph Street Scrambler
Triumph Street Scrambler aims to offer a commuter/cruiser/off-road experience without making any major compromises. The new 900 cc engine is exciting without being overwhelming and provides good power delivery that is accessible across the range. The side mounted exhaust certainly looks apart but the heat insulation leaves a wanting for more. On the go, the Street Scrambler feels smooth and on the gravel, the vibrations are ironed out nicely by the suspension (KYB suspension on both front and rear). You do get two riding modes and a five-speed transmission that transfers power effortlessly. Prices start at Rs 8.10 lakhs ex-showroom.
Triumph Street Triple RS
The angry version of the Street Triple range, Triumph Street Triple RS offers much more than just more speed. Apart from the power and torque gain of 10 PS and 4 Nm respectively, the RS also gets Brembo M50 monobloc front brake callipers, fully adjustable Showa big piston fork front suspension, Ohlins fully-adjustable piggyback reservoir RSU, Quickshifter, 5 riding modes (Sport, Road, Rain, Rider and Track), matt silver painted aluminium rear subframe and Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tyres. The Street Triple RS also comes fitted with a new slip and assist clutch system for a lighter clutch and more control. Prices start at Rs 10.55 lakhs ex-showroom.
