Five including 13-year-old girl suffers injuries

Russia on Monday launched strikes on a Ukraine market in Eastern Ukraine region. Officials reported that two people got killed and five suffered injuries in the attack.

“Two people were killed and five others, including a 13-year-old girl, were wounded by a Russian rocket strike that hit a village market in the northeastern Kharkiv region,” Ukrainian officials said.

Kharkiv regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said the strike hit Shevchenkove village. Photos posted by Syniehubov on his Telegram channel showed ruined pavilions, some of them still on fire, and rubble all around them.

According to Ukrainian officials, more people could be trapped under the rubble. A rescue operation to find them was underway. 

“According to the investigation data, around 9.10am on January 9, the occupiers launched a missile attack on Shevchenkove town in Kupyansk district. An enemy missile hit the territory of a local market. Two women were killed,” The Guardian reported quoting a statement from regional prosecutor's office.

According to preliminary reports, the attack came from S-300 air defence system in Russia’s Belgorod region.
