Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Friday, said that 10 million Ukrainians have been affected by blackouts across the country.

Fresh Russian strikes have crippled the country's infrastructure, which has resulted in blackouts. “Currently, more than 10 million Ukrainians are without electricity,” Zelenskyy told AFP, adding that the regions of Odessa, Vinnytsia, Sumy, and Kyiv were most affected.

“We are doing everything to normalize the supply,” he added. Ukraine's air defense managed to shoot down six cruise missiles and five drones, the BBC reported.

On Thursday, Russia attacked Ukraine with a barrage of missiles, which hit energy installations and civilian buildings in less than two days after one of its heaviest bombardments.

After recent setbacks on the battlefield, Russia has changed tactics. And its impact is starting to be felt severely.

Ukrainians are bracing for a tough winter as several people do not have heating at their homes partially due to power outages and due to the fuel and power crisis that has followed the war. People in Kyiv woke to a blanket of snow on Thursday morning.

Citizens of the recently freed city of Kherson rushed to stockpile food, blankets, and winter clothing, as aid workers tossed supplies into the crowds that waited hours in freezing rain.
