A 42-year-old unidentified woman was arrested in South Korea, for the suspected murder of two children whose bodies were found in two suitcases in New Zealand. The woman is believed to be the children's mother.

The bodies of the children were discovered by an unsuspecting family who bought the suitcases from a storage facility. They alerted the police about the same on August 11. New Zealand police requested the arrest warrant for the woman under the country’s extradition treaty with South Korea, and have applied to have the woman extradited to New Zealand to face charges, The Guardian reported. The New Zealand police said the victims were aged between seven and ten. The family is said to have lived in Auckland for a few years and their father died before their deaths

The woman is a Korean-born New Zealander, who arrived in South Korea in 2018 and has no record of departure since. A Seoul high court will conduct a review of her and decide whether she will be extradited or not. New Zealand authorities have requested that she remain in South Korean custody until the extradition process is complete. The authorities had also requested that she be denied bail until the extradition process is complete. A global Interpol warrant had been issued for her arrest.
