Former Republican and Democratic officials will announce a new national political third party called Forward to appeal to millions of voters. The party will initially be co-chaired by former Democratic presidential candidate Andrew Yang and Christine Todd Whitman, the former Republican governor of New Jersey.

They hope the party will become a viable alternative to the Republican and Democratic parties that dominate US politics, founding members told Reuters. The party has members of the Renew America Movement (RAM) and the Serve America Movement (SAM) and the Forward party formed by Yang in 2021.

"Our reach will expand very quickly," Yang wrote in a blog post announcing the party. "We are already on the ballot in several states with a goal of 15 states by the end of this year, twice that number in '23 and all 50 in '24."

The party leaders will host an official launch in Houston on September 24; a series of events will be held in two dozen cities to attract support. The party's first national convention will be held in a major US city next summer.
