Embattled Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Monday reached out to all opposition parties that have been protesting against his government's handling of the ongoing economic crisis.

Gotabaya wrote to all political parties to join the new government that is expected to take oath on Monday to “find a solution to the national crisis”. All 26 ministers in the government of Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa had resigned on Sunday night.

ANI reported that Gotabaya wrote in his letter “Current crisis is due to several economic and global factors. As one of the leading democracies in Asia, it needs to be addressed within framework of democracy itself. Together we must work together in national interest for benefit of citizens and future generations.”

“Considering this a national need, the time has come to work together for the sake of all the citizens and future generations. The president invites all political parties representing in the parliament to come together to accept ministerial portfolios in order to find solutions to this national crisis,” the letter said.
