Russia and Ukraine will meet for the third round of talks today along the Russian-Belarusian border. Russian delegates have departed for the talks to reach a more diplomatic solution to the conflict. Both nations met twice, but have not reached an agreement on cessation of hostilities. Last week, both sides had agreed to open humanitarian corridors and allow civilians to move out of combat zones.

As the invasion approached day 12 on Monday, the Russian military reinforced their hold on Ukraine. The suburbs of Kyiv, Chernihiv in the north, Mykolaiv in the south, and Kharkiv, the country's second-largest city, are among the places currently under severe bombardment, according to a report by the Associated Press. According to Ukraine's presidential adviser Oleksiy Arestovich, Russian forces have increased their shelling around civilian areas.

Oil prices have risen more than 6 per cent in response to the escalating crisis, reaching their highest level since 2008. This comes after the US and its European allies discussed imposing an embargo on Russian oil imports.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will stop its offensive if Ukraine ceases hostilities.
