A gunman, on Sunday, opened fire at a birthday party in Colorado, where he killed six adults, before killing himself. The birthday party was for one of the victims of the shooting.

The incident took place just after midnight on Sunday in a mobile home park on the east side of Colorado Springs. The shooter is said to be the boyfriend of one of the female victims. The children present at the gathering weren’t hurt and have been placed with relatives.

The neighbourhood, lined with mobile homes, is usually a quiet one, the Denver Post reported. Neighbours were woken up by sounds of shooting.

“Today we find ourselves mourning the loss of lives and praying solemnly for those who were injured and those who lost family members in a senseless act of violence on Sunday morning," Colorado Springs Mayor John Suthers told USA Today.

Colorado Governor Jared Polis tweeted, that the shooting was "devastating, especially as many of us are spending the day celebrating the women in our lives who have made us the people we are today.”
