Twitter, on Friday announced that it will transfer control of the @POTUS account to President-elect Joe Biden when he’s sworn in on Inauguration Day. “Twitter is actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021,” a Twitter spokesperson told The Verge.

According to a report by Politico, other presidential accounts like @whitehouse, @VP and @FLOTUS will be moved over as well. And the existing content on these accounts will be archived before the transfer.

The social media giant is "actively preparing to support the transition of White House institutional Twitter accounts on January 20th, 2021," the spokesperson from Twitter said. The accounts will be reset to zero tweets by Inauguration Day. Twitter has been trying its best to curb tweets of President Donald Trump, who is yet to concede. The President had been trying to spread misinformation, calling the elections a fraud, despite evidence to the contrary.

Several of Trump’s lawsuits to overturn the elections have been called ‘weak’ by legal experts. On Monday, the Trump campaign had retracted part of a lawsuit seeking to halt certification of election results in Pennsylvania. On Wednesday, the claim was reversed and the Trump campaign contended that the state legislature is given authority to assign the state’s 20 electoral votes. Joe Biden won Pennsylvania by over 82,000 votes. Biden, on Saturday Friday, also won the state of Georgia. It is the first time the state has been won by a Democratic candidate since Bill Clinton in 1992.
