America is on the edge with a crucial election under way. With a myriad of red and blue popping in and out of television, phone and computers screens, Americans are facing what is known as election stress. The term has been trending on Twitter. Meena Harris, niece of Democratic vice-presidential candidate Kamala Harris tweeted, “It’s going to be a long night, possibly few days. Breathe. Or drink. Do what you gotta do. I love you.”

Several users have made their election night anxiety known on social media and it only seems natural as voters, especially Democrats haven’t forgotten how Hillary Clinton lost in 2016, thanks to a system known as the electoral college, despite winning popular vote.

"I am going to need Sourdough Bread in the morning #electionstress #Election2020,” a user tweeted.

Actor Ariel Winter, known for her role as Alex Dunphy in Modern Family, posted a picture of herself in a fleece jumpsuit on Instagram with a caption, “Trying to make this uncomfortable night more comfortable🥺 @onepiece #electionnight #onepiecepartner”

“To everyone in my apartment building who’s vacuuming right now: I understand,” wrote another user on Twitter.

Yet another user tweeted, “I’m thinking of making a big bowl of pasta with butter and cheese. That will help for like 20 minutes. #ElectionNight #electionstress.”

Actor Gwyneth Paltrow put up a picture on Instagram with caption, “How’s everybody feeling out there?”

Modern Family actor Sofia Vergara put up a post with a caption that read, “And just to make today more stressful I went and got my mammogram #allgood #dontforgetyours”

Television actor Stephanie Beatriz posted on Instagram: IT ME: channeling my raging anxiety into giving to others. Spent some time today with @wckitchen at Dodger Stadium, handing out sandos from @scopaitalianroots to all the voters while @mariachiausente played!

From making comfort food to drinking their choice of liquor or lighting candles and charging up crystals— Americans have taken to several methods to combat election-related stress as they brace themselves to wait a long time for the results.
