A couple of kayakers at Avila Beach in California were nearly swallowed by a humpback whale. Julie McSorley and Liz Cottriel were kayaking and whale watching when the incident took place. The entire incident was caught on video.

The whale came underneath Julie McSorley and Liz Cottriel and capsized them.

"I saw the big pool of fish, the big bait ball come up out of the water," McSorley told CNN "I saw the whale come up. I thought, 'Oh, no! It's too close.”

"I'm thinking to myself, I'm gonna push. Like, I'm gonna push a whale out of the way! It was the weirdest thought. I'm thinking, 'I'm dead. I'm dead.' I thought it was gonna land on me. Next thing I know, I'm underwater,” Cottriel said. Both the kayakers have escaped unscathed. Several paddle boarders had come to the rescue of the women. Cottriel said, “A bunch of fish came out of my shirt.”, and McSorely reportedly lost her car keys. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, humpbacks are popular among whale watchers as they are active on the surface. Humpbacks typically feed on krill and other small fish.
