The global death toll from COVID-19 surpassed 700,000, as per the John Hopkins University tracker. The United States, Brazil, India and Mexico leading the rise in fatalities, as per a Reuters report and around 5,900 people on an average are dying of COVID-19 every 24 hours, based on data from last two weeks.

Both, the United States and Latin America, the new epicentres of the pandemic are struggling to curb the spread of the virus.

With 2.15 million recoveries, Brazil has the highest number, followed by the US with over 1.5 million. The US has more than 4.77 million cases and over 156,800 deaths; while Brazil has over 2.8 million cases and more than 95,800 fatalities.

The US and Brazil are followed by Mexico with 48,869 deaths and the UK with 46,295 fatalities. The death toll in India due to the coronavirus is 39,795, while in Ukraine the death toll is 1,788. The Czech Republic, a total of 393 people have died due to the coronavirus.

China, which was where the pandemic began, has registered 88,206 cases, more than and over 81,200 recoveries, with the death toll at 4,676.
