Popular US rapper Kanye West announced that he would run for president in 2020. "We must now realise the promise of America by trusting God, unifying our vision and building our future. I am running for president of the United States," West wrote on Twitter with a hashtag #2020VISION.

As of now, it is unclear whether West will challenge Trump and Democratic rival Joe Biden in the upcoming November 3 elections.

West, known for his eccentricity of views and behaviour, has long been a supporter of Trump. “Trump all day,” he had said in one tweet. "Blacks are 90 per cent Democrats. That sounds like control to me. They will not program me," he had said in different tweets.

He had also said he was planning on wearing the MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat during all his performances.

"We will change the world. God is on my side. I am a Christian. I am a tax payer. I am myself. God is with us," said another tweet from the rapper.

In an interview in 2016, Kanye West had talked about running for the office. He said when he talks about the idea of being the president, he isn't saying that he has political views. "I don't have views on politics," he was quoted as saying to BBC Radio 1. He further said in the interview that if there is something that he can do with his time to make a difference while he is alive, he is going to do it.

Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla, supported West on Twitter: "You have my full support!"
