French President Emmanuel Macron said that France is entering the ‘Green Zone’ after victory against the coronavirus, which means that cafes and restaurants in Paris can open, just not the terraces. But, Macron also warned the citizens of a possible return of the coronavirus and asked them to be prepared for it.

According to Macron, the new stage will allow the country to accelerate the reopening of the economy.

The European nation was one of the worst affected by the coronavirus—with its death toll trailing right behind Italy’s at 29,407, while Italy saw about 34,345 deaths.

Macron added that reconstructing the economy will be done along with Europe and that the nation must build a strong, independent, ecologically sound, and equitable economy.

Schools in France are expected to reopen on June 22nd and all students in creches, elementary, middle school and high schools are expected to return to classes.

Macron, however, said that norms of social distancing should be followed in public places.

Macron also spoke in solidarity towards anti-racism rallies, triggered by the death of George Floyd, an African-American who died in May as result of police brutality. Macron said that France would be “uncompromising" in its fight against racism but would not try to erase elements of its history or take down statues of controversial public figures.

“We will be uncompromising against racism, anti-Semitism and discrimination. New decisions for equality will be taken, he was quoted as saying in a DW report.
