Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced a travel ban on all non-residents. Meaning, non-Australian citizens and those who are not permanent residents, will not be allowed entry into the country.

Explaining the rationale behind the ban, Morrison stated that about 80 per cent of the cases in the country has been from someone who has contracted the virus abroad or due to contact with someone who has returned from overseas.

PM Morrisson added that he had consulted with his New Zealand counterpart Jacinda Ardern to “align arrangements across the Tasman Sea" and that he would work with airlines such as Qantas to ensure Australians can return home.

Morrison also told local media that there had already been a two-thirds decline in travel to Australia by non-citizens.

Citizens and permanent residents returning from abroad are also being put on 14 days isolation.
