German man dies four years after eating sandwich poisoned by co-worker

Forget watching out for frenemies at work, look-out for a colleague you may have accidentally scorned! A German man died four years after he was poisoned with mercury by a co-worker.

The 26-year-old fell into a coma post the incident. His relatives spoke about the victim's suffering during the last trial. 

The state court in Bielefeld, convicted the suspect in the case last year, while the youth died on Thursday, the German media reported.The defendant, who has appealed the verdict, had laced his co-workers’ food with mercury and other substances over several years, leaving one in a coma and two others with serious kidney damage.

Surveillance video showed him putting a suspicious powder on a colleague's sandwich at their workplace in the town of Schloss Holte-Stukenbrock. He was arrested in May 2018.
