Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad equated the killing of General Soleimani to that of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi's. He said on Tuesday that the Muslim world should unite after the assassination, deeming the act immoral.

Mahathir, the world's oldest premier stoked Islamic sentiments in December by calling for a conference of leaders from Islamic nations around the world. At the four-day summit, 20 leaders from around the world including those from Iran, Qatar and Turkey got together and discussed topics like Islamophobia and crackdown of the Uighur community in China.

Mahathir added that the attack on Soleimani was against international laws.

Iran-US tensions have peaked since Soleimani's killing. While Iran has vowed revenge, US President Donald Trump promised worse action and even threatened Iraq with more severe sanctions if they dispelled US troops from Iraq.

Mahathir said, “We are no longer safe now. If anybody insults or says something that somebody doesn't like, it is all right for that person from another country to send a drone and perhaps have a shot at me.”

Mahathir recently made comments on the treatment of Muslims in India and openly criticised the Saudi Arabia-based Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. This has soured Malaysia's relations with Delhi and Riyadh.
