Ashraq Haji Hamid was 14 years old when she faced the horrors of abduction, rape and sex slavery six years ago.

The ISIS fighters, who had seized Mount Sinjar which is the Yazidi ancestral heartland in Iraq, had killed thousands of boys and men and abducted girls who were later raped and sold into sex slavery. Hamid was one among them.

She was violently raped, tortured and sold into sex slavery. However, she managed to escape the ISIS custody and flee to Germany. Her ordeals did not end there. Her captor Abu Hamam found her there, and told her knew where she lived.

She then fled from Germany in 2018 and returned to Iraq. Meanwhile, Hamam, who had returned from Germany, was arrested.

In a recent interview aired on Iraqi TV channel Al-Iraqiya, she was given a chance to confront Hamam, who was in handcuffs. An emotionally charged Hamid asked him to look at her. “Why did you do this to me, why. Because I am Yazidi” she asked.

“I was 14 years old when you raped me,” she told him. When he looked down, unable to meet her in the eye, she asked him again to look up and look at her. “Do you have any feelings? Do you have any honour,” she asks him.

“I was 14 years old, as old as your daughter, your son or your sister. You destroyed my life. You robbed me of my dreams,” she told him. “I was once held by ISIS, by you. But now you will feel the meaning of torment, and loneliness. If you had any feelings, you would not have raped when I was 14.”

She fainted after finishing the sentence.

She had narrated the ordeals she underwent. According to The Times of Israel, she said, "“We arrived in Syria at midnight. We were worried and didn’t know what would become of us and whether we would be killed or not."

She said they took comfort in the fact that they are together and would either live or die together. However, they were separated from each other. In Syria, girls above the age of nine were separated from their relatives and taken to Mosul.

Hamid said the ISIS men would give the girls as gifts to one another. “I did not expect them to rape us because I was only 14. But they restrained us with iron handcuffs and violently raped us," she was quoted as saying. She said Humam selected her and pulled her by hair.

She said Humam would rape her three times a day.
