Multiple people were hit in a shooting incident in Columbia Heights, Washington, D.C., Washington Post reported. The publication added that at least two were in critical condition. Reuters reported at least one casualty and five injuries, adding that it was not an "active shooter" situation. The incident was reported on Thursday night, around 10pm eastern time.

The gunman in that shooting was arrested and charged. Firearms caused nearly 40,000 deaths in the US in 2017, which was highest in 50 years, according to official data.
