The death toll from a dam collapse last week at a mining complex in Brazil's Brumadinho has risen to 121 as 226 people are still missing, according to officials.

The disaster, which occurred on January 25 at the Corrego do Feijao mining complex, triggered a deadly landslide and buried nearby homes, vehicles and roads in Brumadinho. Search operations to retrieve bodies were still going on, said authorities.

Those who have been listed missing are presumed dead as search and rescue operation have yielded no results in the past week. The ones who are dead and missing were workers at the mine owned by mining company Vale. They were buried under mine waste after the dam collapsed.

This is the second dam disaster in three years to hit Brazilian mining company Vale. Authorities have frozen over USD 3 billion in company assets for it to pay damages and compensation.
