The woman who accused President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault demanded that her allegations be investigated by the FBI before she testifies at a Congressional committee.

Jugde Kavanaugh said he would testify before the Senate judiciary committee scheduled for September 24.

Speaking through her attorneys, Christine Blasey Ford said the FBI investigation should be "the first step" before her testiomony on "this traumatic and harrowing incident" that allegedly took place when they were in high school, almost 36 years ago.

President Donald Trump has nominated 53-year-old Judge Brett Kavanaugh in place of Justice Anthony Kennedy who retired this year from the Supreme Court. The allegations made by Ford, a university professor in California, has shaken up the battle over Kavanaugh's confirmation after Senate Republicans called for a public hearing with both accuser and accused testifying.

In a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, Ford's lawyers said "a full investigation by law enforcement officials will ensure that the crucial facts and witnesses in this matter are assessed in a non-partisan manner, and the Committee is fully informed before conducting any hearing or making any decisions." The contents of the letter was disclosed by CNN.

Ford told Washington Post that Kavanaugh and a friend corralled her into a bedroom and pinning her to a bed attacked her at a house in Montgomery county, Maryland, while they were high school students. Jugde Kavanaugh has denied the allegations.

Kavanaugh attended the all-boys high school while Ford studied at the all-girls Holton Arms School,in the early 1980.

"Publicly or privately, I want her to be heard. I don't want her to be shut out, and if she wants to do it privately, that's fine with me," Senator Lindsey Graham told Fox News. She said Kavanaugh would also be given a chance to present his side of the allegations.

Though the stand taken by Ford has put the hearing in jeoardy, the Republicans are appeared to be going ahead with the scheduled Capitol Hill hearing.
