One of the two men who rescued Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant after a horrific car crash in 2022, is reportedly in critical condition after attempting suicide with his girlfriend.
On December 30, 2022, Rajat Kumar, 25, and Nishu Kumar had pulled out Pant from his car which had crashed into the road divider and caught fire, and called the ambulance. The cricketer was on his way to his hometown Roorkee.
Rajat is now battling for his life in hospital after consuming poison with his lover Manu Kashyap, 21. The duo took the extreme step after their families opposed their relationship and fixed their weddings elsewhere.
An NDTV report said the incident happened on February 9 in Bucha Basti in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh. Another Times of India report claimed that a villager raised alarm seeing them writhing in pain, and that the two were rushed to different hospitals. But, Manu could not be saved. The two are suspected to have consumed pesticide.
The woman’s mother has, reportedly, filed a police complaint accusing Rajat of abducting Manu and poisoning her.
Rajat and Nishu, who worked at a factory near the crash site, did not know who Pant was while they were rescuing him that day. The wicketkeeper-batter had later gifted scooters to both of them as a mark of gratitude for saving his life. The accident kept Pant away from competitive cricket for more than a year.
The two people who saved Rishabh Pant's life after his accident had no idea who he was.@beastieboy07 travels back to India to retrace the steps from Pant's accident to his return, but also much more than that.
