Manchester United's Moroccan right-back Noussair Mazraoui underwent a surgical procedure after experiencing heart palpitations.
The 26-year-old will be out of action for a few weeks after undergoing the precautionary procedure. The surgery was labelled "minor" by Manchester United sources on Thursday, according to the UK media. Mazraoui was substituted at half-time of United's 0-0 draw with Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday. Later, he pulled out of international duty due to heart palpitations.
Erik Ten Hag's Manchester United signed the versatile defender from Bayern Munich in August for an initial fee of £12.8m. After the match against Villa ended goalless, United are 14th in the table with two wins, two draws and three defeats.
The United's defence department is stretched with Leny Yoro, Tyrell Malacia, Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire nursing injuries of varying degrees.
What is Heart palpitation?
Heart palpitations are feelings of having a fast-beating, fluttering or pounding heart -- often triggered by stress, exercise or medication. They are "usually harmless", Mayo Clinic said on its official website. However, they rarely occur as the symptom of complex cardiac issues the person is suffering, it added. In such cases, heart-monitoring tests are done on the patient.
The heart skipping beats or beating too fast or pounding are the common symptoms of this condition. Heart palpitations may be felt in the throat or neck as well as the chest, and can occur while the person is engaged in day-to-day activity or while at rest. Patients are advised to seek medical help if they start experiencing severe dizziness, shortness of breath, chest discomfort or pain.
