The Indian women's football team lost to Tunisia 0-1 in an international friendly on Monday, played at the UAE FA Stadium in Dubai.

Tunisia's Heuij scored the all-important goal for Tunisia in the eighth minute from a free kick and the Indians could not find the target in reply despite several efforts to attack.

India had chances from two free kicks in the first half but could not capitalise on them. As the break approached, Indumathi found space in front of her and took a shot on goal but was off target.

By the 53rd minute, India head coach Thomas Dennerby made three substitutions, including bringing on goalkeeper Shreya Hooda for the first-choice Aditi Chauhan. Shreya would make a crucial save from a Tunisia counterattack in the 63rd minute.

Despite India's several chances on goal, Tunisia held on to the single goal lead, beating the higher-ranked Indian side.

Tunisia are placed 77th in the FIFA rankings as against India's 57th position.

India had beaten UAE 4-1 on Saturday in the team's first overseas friendly since Thomas Dennerby took charge. But the team produced a disappointing show against Tunisia.

The friendlies are part of preparations for the AFC Asian Cup, which will be hosted by India in January-February.

The win against 100th ranked UAE on Saturday was India's first of the year. The Blue Tigress have been winless in their five previous matches this year, though all of them were against higher-ranked European sides.

The team will now travel to Bahrain, where they will play Bahrain and Chinese Taipei.
