Cristiano Ronaldo scored on his second 'debut' for Manchester United, finding the target twice, as United thrashed Newcastle United 4-1 in the Premier League match at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Ronaldo pounced on a spill by Newcastle keeper Freddie Woodman off a low shot from Mason Greenwood, to slot in from close range.

Javier Manquillo brought Newcastle level in the 56th minute with a low right-foot shot, after a swift counter by Miguel Almiron.

The 36-year-old Portuguese forward then latched on to a through ball from Luko Shaw, held off three opponent players and scored his second with a cool finish through Woodman's legs.

His compatriot Bruno Fernandes then scored a screamer to make it 3-1. Substitute Jesse Lingard then rounded off a convincing win with a well-taken shot from inside the box.

Ronaldo spent six seasons at United between 2003-09, winning eight major trophies, and rejoined them from Juventus last month on a two-year contract.

Ronaldo scored 118 goals for the English club before moving to Real Madrid where he won four Champions League titles.

The current Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer played alongside Ronaldo in the Portugal star's first spell at United.
