India have chosen to bat after winning the toss in the second Test of the four-match series against England at Chennai that began on Saturday.

Earlier this week, India lost the first Test of the series by 227 runs, being effectively outclassed by Joe Root's men.

Speaking at the toss, India captain Virat Kohli said left-arm orthodox spinner Axar Patel will play his first Test match, while left-arm unorthodox spinner Kuldeep Yadav returns to the Test side after three years. India will be playing a three-man spin attack in the Test, with off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also in the side.

Kohli said pace bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was rested for the match and Mohammed Siraj brought in his place. Kohli cited the need for managing "workloads" as the reason to rest Bumrah.

England made four changes, dropping pace bowlers James Anderson and Joffra Archer, spinner Dom Bess and wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler. Anderson has been rested, while Archer has an elbow injury. In their place, England have brought in wicket-keeper Ben Foakes, spin-bowling all-rounder Mooen Ali and fast bowlers Stuart Broad and Olly Stone.
