Board of Control for Cricket in India President Sourav Ganguly was discharged from Apollo hospital on Sunday after he underwent another angioplasty. Doctors at the hospital have said that he will make a full recovery, adding that he will be “absolutely alright”.

“Mr Ganguly is doing fine and his heart is as strong as a normal person. He had an uneventful recovery and we are hopeful that within the next couple of days, he will be able to return to normal life,” a senior doctor said.

The former India captain was admitted to Apollo Hospital on Wednesday after he complained of chest pain and uneasiness. This is the second heart operation Ganguly has undergone in a month, after he was admitted to Woodlands Hospital earlier this month when he suffered a heart attack.

The 48-year-old, who was diagnosed with ‘triple vessel disease’, had two more stents put in this time after the first round of angioplasty to remove one of three coronary blockages.

Hospital authorities said that Ganguly was well enough to have been discharged on Saturday night, but it was put off till Sunday following a discussion with his family.

Doctors further said that the BCCI chief is required to follow a strict routine and needs to be on medication for a few months.

Following his discharge from the hospital, Ganguly was feted by several fans outside Apollo Hospital and at his Kolkata home. They threw rose petals at his car as they welcomed their Dada, as he is fondly known.
