Board of Control for Cricket in India President Sourav Ganguly was hospitalised on Wednesday after he complained of chest pain and shortness of breath.

Sources said the former India captain felt uneasy on Tuesday night and experienced mild chest pain on Wednesday afternoon. He was taken to Apollo Hospital through a green corridor from his residence at Behala.

Reports are coming in that Ganguly is stable and feeling better now. However, family members and doctors have said that they want to keep him under observation for a few days.

Hospital authorities have ruled out any complications as of now. It is unlikely that the pain is due to a coronary blockage as a stent had been inserted the first time he was admitted to Woodlands Hospital earlier this month when he had a mild heart attack.

Another stent is likely to be inserted to clear the blockage again.

Ganguly, who had been diagnosed with ‘triple vessel disease’, had three blocked coronary arteries, and a stent was inserted in one to remove the blockage. A nine-member panel at the Woodlands Hospital had decided that Ganguly will undergo angioplasty on two coronary blockages at an “immediate later stage”.

He was discharged a week after he was hospitalised, saying he felt “absolutely fine” and thanked the doctors for their treatment.
