Two goals in the first 12 minutes of the game made all the difference as Mumbai City managed to hold on to their lead for the rest of the match to beat Kerala Blasters 2-0 in the ISL 2020-21 encounter at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim, Goa.

Adam Le Fondre scored in the third minute off a penalty, while Hugo Boumous doubled the lead in the 11th minute.

Mumbai punished Kerala for an early error which gifted them the first goal in the third minute. Boumous latched on to a Vicente Gomez back-pass and the Frenchman was brought down in the box by Costa Nhamoinesu and won a penalty. Le Fondre netted his sixth goal of the campaign despite Albino Gomes getting a leg to the ball.

Mumbai doubled their lead in the 11th minute and this time, Boumous got his name on the scoresheet.

Ahmed Jahouh sent a long ball from his own half towards Boumous from a free-kick, and the Frenchman made it look easy as he got past his marker and slotted past Albino.

Mumbai City kept on pressing for a third but the Blasters managed to keep them at bay till the half-time.

Post the break, it was more of a role reversal as the Yellow Army came out all cylinders blazing as the Mumbai outfit were forced to go into the defensive. Kerala nearly pulled a goal back in the 55th minute but Jordan Murray's effort was ruled offside. Abdul Sahal Samad and Vincente Gomez almost restored parity but a brilliant Mumbai goalkeeper Amrinder Singh denied the Blasters on both occasions.

Mumbai City had a chance to make it 3-0 when Boumous won a penalty, but custodian Albino Gomes saved it—his third one of the season.

With the win, Mumbai went top of the points table with 19 points while Kerala Blasters remained in the ninth position with six points.
