England cricketer Ben Stokes on Wednesday took to Instagram to pay tribute to his father Ged Stokes, who passed away a day earlier following a long battle with brain cancer.

Stokes posted a picture of his father, wearing a Rajasthan Royals t-shirt and looking jovial, on Instagram, and wrote at the end of the caption: ‘Love you forever and always’.

“In different places now me and you Ged but knowing you’ll always have this smile on your face make’s me smile every time I think of you. love you forever and always (sic),” he wrote.

Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals took to Twitter to pay their respects to Stokes Sr.

“RIP Ged Stokes. One of the greatest characters in our special cricket family. We’re with you Ben. Strength to you and your family,” the team tweeted.

Stokes had missed a most of the Test series against Pakistan following the resumption of cricket in the summer after the lockdown as he went Christchurch in New Zealand to be with his father, who was diagnosed with brain cancer.

The 29-year-old had also missed the first few matches of the 2020 IPL. Stokes had been bought by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 12.5 crore.

The England all-rounder is currently in South Africa with the national side. England white-washed South Africa in the three-match T20I series. However, the ODI series has been postponed as COVID-19 cases were reported among the England contingent earlier this week.
