Cricket may have had a slow year due to the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, but that hasn’t stopped the sport from going all out since its resumption―the most notable being the Indian Premier League’s comeback in all its glory sans spectators.

The T20 World Cup was postponed to next year to make way for the IPL, but BCCI president Sourav Ganguly has reminded us that India will host the marquee event. Taking to Twitter, the former India captain posted a few pictures of him posing with the trophy, and captioned it, “It’s time for india in 21 ..ICC T20 World cup.”

The men’s T20 World Cup was scheduled to be staged during October-November this year had to be postponed due to the pandemic.

India hosted the 2016 T20 World Cup as well, with the West Indies team winning the title a second time.

“It is a matter of great honour for us to be hosting the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. India has successfully staged several global events since the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in 1987 and I am sure cricketers from around the world would be excited at the prospect of playing in our cricket loving country,” he said.

“I have enjoyed being part of ICC events as a player and know from experience that nothing beats the buzzing atmosphere of a global cricket event with millions around the world watching every game. I now look forward to playing my part as an administrator as we prepare to host the prestigious event.”

This will be the 5th ICC World Cup tournament India will be hosting since the World Cup since 1987.
