Shane Watson and Faf du Plessis formed a spectacular opening partnership to lead Chennai Super Kings to a massive 10-wicket victory over Kings XI Punjab in an Indian Premier League match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

Plessis smashed 87 while Shane Watson hit 83 as CSK comfortably chased down the target of 179 runs in 17.4 overs.

The target they have chased down is the second biggest in a 10-wicket win in the IPL. It is also only the second time that CSK have managed to win a match by 10 wickets

Watson and Plessis also broke the highest opening stand record of 159-run previously set by Mike Hussey and Murali Vijay for the CSK in 2011.

Earlier, the effective death over bowling from Shardul Thakur and Dwayne Bravo helped CSK restrict Punjab to 178/4.

Openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal got KXIP to brilliant start with the duo forming a 61-run partnership. Rahul played a knock of 63 runs off 52 balls while Agarwal was dismissed for 26 in the ninth over.

Mandeep Singh played a quick knock of 27 runs off just 16 balls after which Nicholas Pooran put up a 58-run stand for the third wicket.

For CSK, Shardul Thakur took two wickets while Ravindra Jadeja and Piyush Chawla bagged one wicket each.
