Real Madrid forward Karim Benzema took to Instagram to compare himself to Olivier Giroud. During an instagram live, Benzema took a random potshot at Giroud who plays as the lone striker for France. Benzema hasn’t played for the French national team since the Euro 2016. In his absence, Giroud has been enjoying game time and is now the third highest scorer for France.

“You don’t compare Formula 1 with karting, and I am being nice,” said Benzema. ““Next…I know that I am Formula 1. It works because he is there, that is the only reason. It won’t be spectacular, he won’t do something amazing, but he has his thing. Aside from that, does everyone like the way he plays? I don’t know.” Benzema’s sudden jibe at Giroud comes out of nowhere. The Real Madrid forward was left out of the team following a dispute with French teammate Mathieu Valbuena where the latter accused the former of blackmailing him.

While Benzema has performed well at Real Madrid, Giroud has struggled to gain a place in the starting lineup at Chelsea. While Benzema’s exploits on the field have been commendable, it wasn’t enough for him to get a callback to the French national team with the president of the French Football Federation standing against the callback. The decision was also heavily criticised by Benzema who said he would rather play for any country which will allow him to play. Incidentally, he is qualified to play for Algeria.
