Saina Nehwal's miserable run in 2019 is continuing, with the star Indian shuttler suffering yet another first round loss on Wednesday. This is the fifth time in the last six tournaments Saina is losing in the first round.
Saina, ranked world number 9, lost her first round match at the Hong Kong Open to lower-ranked Chinese teenager Cai Yan Yan 13-21, 20-22 in just half-an-hour. This Saina's second-straight first round loss to Cai in a week. The Chinese player had knocked Saina out of the China Open.

Cai got off to a powerful start, winning the first game decisively. In the second game, Saina managed to claw her way back after Cai took a 18-14 lead. Saina won five straight points, but could not capitalise further.

Sameer Verma of India also crashed out of the Hong Kong Open on Wednesday, losing to Wang Tzu Wei of Chinese Taipei, losing 13-21, 11-21.
